This class will focus on a variety of techniques to enable you to use 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional components to adorn and personalize your work. Demonstrations will include handbuilding with soft slabs and coils, creating simple hump and slump molds using plaster, clay and other materials like wood and cardboard.  We will also work combining throwing and handbuilding methods and learn techniques for altering vessels both on the wheel and off.  Various surface decoration techniques on greenware and bisqueware will be explored including slip and underglaze application using paper, wax and rubber resists, slip trailing and inlay, shellac resist, texturing the surface using stamping and sprigging with found and created stamps, glaze application through dipping, pouring, and trailing, along with a variety of resists and glaze inlay.
