The Clay Art Center is pleased to announce a NEW fellowship opportunity, which will be awarded to one artist/teacher each year. The Community Arts Fellowship is made possible by the generous support of an anonymous donor, who is passionate to provide opportunities for an artist/teacher to work in a community studio and to touch the lives of the youth in our community. It is intended to nurture the teacher in the artist, while at the same time allowing them the opportunity to develop their own work by providing them a space in which to work. Applications are requested from ceramic artists who are passionate to pursue the Artist/ Teacher career. Effective immediately, applications will be due on May 1st of each year and will begin on September 1st.
(A Fellow is a person appointed to a position granting
a stipend and allowing for advanced study or research)

Eligibility:
Applications are restricted to clay artists who have completed all formal undergraduate &/or graduate academic training by the start of the fellowship period. Art Education majors with a focus in ceramics may also apply. Mastery in the medium of ceramics as well as a clear direction in their own work is required. Individuals should demonstrate the desire to work in the studio on developing their art work and at the same time developing a curriculum for a successful after school ceramics program to benefit the community.

Requirements:
The chosen individual will be required to spend afternoons during the school year teaching ceramics in after school programs, therefore gaining real life teaching experience. The fellow will also be involved in the development of community arts programming and planning. The fellow will have some studio responsibilities, including but not limited to the firing of all community arts related artwork.

Benefits:
The recipient will receive a one year Fellowship at the Clay Art Center which provides the following:
- a 10’x10’ studio space
- a $100 monthly stipend
- access to and use of studio facilities
- Opportunity to teach for pay as independent contractor, with an average of 8 hours per week during the school year
