WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE AT CLAY ART CENTER?

“When I first started using the clay it was hard and a little frustrating, but as I progressed through the clay I felt more in control and free.”     Treasure Pray, age 13 Teen Wheel Class

“I really enjoy expressing myself with my creations. Creating with clay is also fun as a break from all of my schoolwork. Clay to me is a lot better than watching TV or playing video games.”   Jared Pena,  age 11 Teen Wheel Class

“I love to do clay art. I had a wonderful teacher to teach me how to use clay. My first year I was very shy, my second time I was talking and answering questions. I like to come to clay art!”    Juelisa Hall, age 9 Clay After School

"As a graphic designer I'm constantly working within the boundaries of technology and specifications for my projects. Taking classes at CAC has offered me a way to express my creativity freely away from the computer and without constraint. What started as a hobby has turned into a something much more for me. I find working in clay both liberating and healing. CAC has opened up a whole new world to me and to the community. I'm grateful for all I have learned and continue to learn at CAC."  - Jess Palmer

“I came to the Clay Art Center through a friend.  We were both taking a class at a different studio and she wanted to try CAC because of the variety of glazes that were offered.  I tagged along and fell in love.  While there are several clay bodies and numerous glazes available, it clearly is not the main draw for me.  I love my classes, my teachers and have made  friendships with other students (and teachers) along the way.  The teachers have been encouraging and patient while helping me improve,  and even when I don't see beauty in a pot, they always find something beautiful about it.  Fridays (the day of my class) and now Sundays ("month of sundays") are now the highlight of my week.  If I could only get in every day for the daily open studio hours, my week would be perfect.”   – Rose Foley

“Besides being a wonderful place to learn about clay, work with clay, perfect your technique, the Clay Art Center, for me, an old lady in fairly good health, can take advantage of meeting new people, not only old people, but young people, even twenty-year old students. I meet people from everywhere—people from Japan, France, Turkey.  Our teachers are terrific.  Wanting so much to be here, I can’t make up my mind whether or not to move to NYC.”  – Marion Cohen

“…THEN I phoned the clay art center and spoke to the delightful and welcoming Dominique. She invites me over for a tour. She tells me Independent Study sounds like what would be best for me…. I start modeling clay like I am 5 yrs old again… I am hooked. I work happily every day and turn out quite a few pieces…I have made friends at the Clay Art Center, the teachers are really terrific. They do the best things. And the students are happy. The young and old alike. CAC is a welcoming place. It is filled with activities that INVOLVE THE COMMUNITY. There are ALWAYS people there working, and fundraising is done behind the scenes and often for other causes, like Empty Bowls for the food bank. I am very very happy at the clay art center. I hope to stay there a long long time, or until someone from the private sector discovers me and throws me out.”   -    Marcia Wilson, Independent Study student

“ Clay Art Center is a community of enthusiastic, passionate and devoted teachers, artists and staff, and they fill me with those same qualities.  I love being part of this very special community as I see my skills and creativity develop from year to year.”  - Zivart House

“I remember the first time that my son attended a class at the Clay Art Center.  He'd been wanting to try the pottery wheel since he was 5 years old, and after taking his first throwing class, he was hooked!  He's made the most amazing pieces of art, and my other three children have followed in his footsteps.  The CAC is a special place that fosters the joy of personal expression and the thrill of creation in every class my children take.  My kids "jump" into my car when they know they are going and cannot wait to see what each other has made from the previous class.  It's like Christmas when they get their pieces back from the kiln!  The Clay Art Center holds a very special place in our entire family's heart.  We feel fortunate to have such a treasure available to us.” -  Jackie Tonkel, mom to Will Tonkel, Teen Wheel student

“I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work in helping me put together Mimi's birthday party together with hardly any advance notification.  You handled everything so professionally.  Catie was excellent, and Mimi said it was the best party she ever had!  All her guests had a great time and I would recommend your parties to all my friends!  There is also the added excitement of us delivering the finished products to each child, and my daughter can't wait to do that.”   – Amy Lacombe
