This class will focus on the making of “chanoyu no odohgu” (goods for the Tea Ceremony).  In the winter/spring session, the class will continue its focus on making tea bowls, water jars, flower containers and other essential items to complete the tea ceremony.   Shino and Oribe type glazes will be explored in detail. In April, the class will have the opportunity to participate in a group wood firing at Peters Valley Center for the Arts (details TBA).  All manners of expression will be encouraged, whether functional or sculptural, to create a variety of forms. Students will be nurtured to work in individual directions. Taught in Japanese and English.  Recommended textbook: Tea Culture of Japan by Sadako Ohki, Yale University Art Gallery.
