This demonstration workshop will focus on two elements; form and surface.  Using the potter’s wheel as a foundation, Yoshi will demonstrate how he creates strictly functional objects – cups, plates, and bowls, and sculptural vessels.  The ceramic surface will serve as a collection point for inspiration.  Students will observe Yoshi as he enhances the elegant quality of porcelain by exploring the complex relationship and limitless potential between form and surface.  Yoshi will also give an image presentation and talk about his clay journey. 

Yoshi Fujii is a resident artist at Baltimore Clayworks and was a recipient of the 2008-09 Lormina Salter Fellowship.  He received his B.F.A. from University of Southern Mississippi and his M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  His interest is in wheel-thrown porcelain utilitarian and sculptural work with carved surface.  Yoshi’s current work and additional information is available at www.baltimoreclayworks.org or www.yoshifujii.com.
