Are you stuck in a glaze rut? Do your glaze attempts misbehave?

This is the class for you. In our High Fire Glaze Exploration class Ed Myder will help to elevate your glaze explorations. The key to beautiful work in cone 10 reduction is to understand how these glazes behave and embrace the variety of outcomes they can produce. It is essential to be open to random results and to look for beauty in the unexpected.

We will attempt to gain better understanding of cone 10 by discussing some very basic chemistry and how some of the glazes react together in certain combinations. We will also address the importance of proper application technique; especially as it relates to glazes running. Then we will introduce several different expressive methods of application I’ve found that really bring out the dynamic character of these glazes. Finally, we will discuss a few basic – yet invaluable - techniques to control run-off and prevent ruined pots and kiln shelves.

The pots will be put to fire and then we will regroup in the gallery 2 weeks later for a follow up to see what results everyone got from their experiments, an integral part of the process. This will enable us all to see other peoples results as well as our own and discuss
