Do you have difficulty getting your lids to fit your pots? This is the class for you!

Join James as he takes you through the nuanced details of making a perfectly fitting lid on the wheel. James will introduce you to the tools that result in precision trimming and tips that will improve your general throwing skills.

The focus of this workshop will be ceramic storage jars, and small closed form salt cellar jars using colored porcelain.

  • Day 1: James will demonstrate and explain how to color porcelain, students will not be coloring porcelain. Students will then throw under James expert guidance.

  • Day 2: Students will be finishing/ trimming and utilizing various sanding techniques on their pots.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Pre requisite: Several clay classes.
This class is not suitable for beginners.

Workshop Policies

Artist Bio;

James Pastore makes functional ceramics in his home studio in Rural Pennsylvania. His work is intended to be part of everyday life, the mug you reach for every morning. He hopes that people find joy in the daily rituals of their lives when using one of his pots. Pastore holds a BFA from Alfred University, teaches ceramics at various Art Centers and has been an artist-in-residence at Penland School of Craft.
