Visit From Anywhere: Clay Art Center on Bloomberg Connects

Clay Art Center is delighted to announce that you can now view a digital guide to our facilities and history on the Bloomberg Connects app, a free platform to explore curated content from over 1500 museums, galleries, sculpture parks, gardens, and cultural spaces from the palm of your hand.

As Clay Art Center prepares to enter its 70th year of operation, we are reflecting on the incredible history that has brought us to this moment. Hundreds of artists, passionate about clay and dedicated to this community, have gathered here over the decades to lose themselves in the ceramic process, to find joy and commiserate with likeminded folks, and to push themselves and the art of clay further - just as founders Katherine Choy and Henry Okamoto intended. The people have always made this place what it is, and telling their stories helps visitors understand the vital energy of Clay Art Center. By partnering with Bloomberg Connects, an international platform dedicated to making the art and offerings of cultural organizations more accessible, Clay Art Center will now be able to bring these stories to more people all over the world.

Clay Art Center was first introduced to Bloomberg Connects at a New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) workshop two years ago. The app was created by Bloomberg Philanthropies with the express purpose of making the behind-the-scenes and in-depth content that so many people love to experience at museums and galleries available to everyone, anywhere in the world. The accessibility features built into the app, including voice over, captions and audio transcripts, image zoom, and font size adjustment, also make the content more accessible than ever before, removing barriers to engaging with the arts. More than 1500 museums, galleries, gardens, and cultural spaces are represented on Bloomberg Connects, from tiny galleries, to our neighbors at The Capitol Theatre and the Neuberger Museum of Art, to leading cultural institutions like The Met and MoMA, and with the completion of this project (two years in the making), we are so thrilled to be joining them.

As we dove into our archival and historic pottery collections ahead of Clay Art Center’s 70th anniversary in 2027, Bloomberg Connects became the perfect repository for uncovered stories from our founding, curatorial perspectives on the work of Katherine Choy, and images and details of pots that have lived in storage for decades. Longtime members of our community and folks who have never set foot here can both see Clay Art Center with fresh eyes, from discovering the work of our founders, to meeting our current Artists-in-Residence, to learning about how they can get involved. And this is only the start - the Clay Art Center guide on Bloomberg Connects will continue to grow as we add more spaces, more pieces, and more voices.

You can check out the guide by downloading the free Bloomberg Connects app, or by visiting from your browser.
