Artist Bio

Roberta Shapiro is a Clay Art Center Artist Member whose porcelain work ranges from functional to sculptural. Hand painted motifs in underglaze are often featured on her work, as well as stamped and textured surfaces on her quilted pieces.

Artist Statement

Art has been central to my life for as long as I can recall. I taught art at the elementary level and shared the joy and wonder students felt when exploring the many aspects of the creative process. This has influenced my experience when working with clay. I discovered clay later in my career. My love of painting would merge seamlesslywith clay to create bold and colorful work. Whether functional, sculptural, hand built or wheel thrown, porcelain, underglazes, colored clays and engobes are my materials of choice. I strive to create work that is aesthetically pleasing, fun and colorful.
