CAC Resident Artist Kelley Donahue visits the Around the World in Clay Class

The Around the World in Clay Class, which is designed to introduce disadvantaged Port Chester High School students to culturally relevant projects and artists as they learn the basics of hand-building and throwing on the potter's wheel. Recently the students got a visit from CAC Resident artist and Barbara Rittenberg Fellowship, Kelley Donahue. Kelley visited the class to show the teens her building and decorating techniques. Having our artists guest appear at our classes is really helpful because it helps the kids to see a new fresh point of view and to gain a more broad knowledge of clay.

This free onsite clay program highlights the ceramic traditions of cultures from all around the world, allowing the students to not only gain knowledge of clay techniques but to also learn about other cultures outside of our own. The program is made possible through the generous support of the Common Sense fund and is in its fourth year running.
