This Past Week in Community Arts

It’s been a busy week for Community Arts at Clay Art Center! From sustainability initiatives to Pride celebrations, school visits and field trips, this week had something for everyone.

Nine high-school students from this past year’s Around the World in Clay program visited the Metropolitan Museum for a bilingual guided tour focusing on ceramics from the Ancient Americas, Greece, and China.

Our Community Arts team also taught 12 one-hour classes over three days at the John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Port Chester. Now in its second year, this workshop introduced125 5th grade students to working with clay through pinch pots. You can see some of their work below.

Both this workshop and the Around the World in Clay trip to the Metropolitan Museum were funded by the Common Sense Fund.

The Town of Rye held its inaugural Ecofest in Crawford Park, with activities for the whole family that shined a light on sustainable, economical living. Staff and volunteers at Clay Art Center had a lot of fun making seed bombs full of pollinator-friendly flower seeds to give away at the event!

Clay Art Center hosted a clay table at this year’s Port Chester Pride, which also featured a flag-raising ceremony, music by Kiah Thomas, and tabling by other community organizations. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Pride!
