Enhancing Our Community Through Clay
This past week, the new planters for outside the Don Bosco Community Center were unveiled in a ribbon cutting ceremony. The planters were created by Community Arts students at Don Bosco, led by Artist-in-Residence Evelyn Mtika.
Yesterday we celebrated community arts in Port Chester with the installation of ceramic planters and a ribbon cutting ceremony at Don Bosco Community Center. We are so proud of the work the students have done! Thank you to St. Faith's House Foundation for funding our longstanding partnership with Don Bosco, and to Andres Alvarez, Director of Operations at Don Bosco Community Center, and Lysa Guaman, Program Director at Don Bosco Community Center for helping coordinate the program and bring high-quality arts education to the Port Chester community. Thanks also to our neighbors Floral Fashions, for donating the beautiful plants and offering practical advice on the construction of the planters.
A special thank you to outgoing second-year Artist-in-Residence Evelyn Mtika for leading this project, and inspiring a new generation of artists. From the very beginning of this project, Evelyn took care of every detail and made sure to include the ideas of every student in her class. The resulting planters themselves are a living symbol of the creativity, collaboration, and diversity of Port Chester.
Congratulations to the students who brought their enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication to this project. Together, we have created something beautiful for all our community to enjoy! We wish Evelyn Mtika well on the next stage of her journey as a ceramic artist!
Ayer celebramos las artes comunitarias en Port Chester con la instalación de jardineras cerámicas y una ceremonia de corte de cinta en el Don Bosco Community Center. Estamos muy orgullosos del trabajo que los estudiantes hicieron!
