Artist Bio

New York based, Korean-American artist Jamie Lee began by taking inspiration from the simple act of sharing daily meals at the table with her family. Her pieces were crafted to make the ordinary ritual of eating and drinking more enjoyable and meaningful through the enhanced form, texture, and color of her clay gestures.

Jamie currently works as a Clay Art Center Studio Artist. Her work focuses on a combination of color palettes that impart emotional warmth and surface textures that can trigger new interest time and time again.

Artist Statement

I build clay forms to create tangible and intangible spaces for audiences to linger, reside and connect in and around the physical works at an emotional level. My current focus is to develop glaze combinations and firing schedules to construct large scale works that engender warm, inviting sensations to viewers, through a modulating color palette and textural landscapes.

A celadon-glazed porcelain fish pond is nestled inside of a dark stoneware outer shell which is brushed with layers of glazes. Fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln. A heavy pin frog is included to hold flower stems in place.
