2 Day Workshop

In this combined demonstration and hands-on workshop, Mike will demonstrate and guide students through a range of surface techniques, including slip trailing, water etching, gold luster application, and his own specialty glazes. Students will bring their own tools and practice these techniques on greenware provided during the workshop. Mike will also demonstrate wheel-throwing techniques that students can incorporate into their own practice. In addition, group discussions will address technique, craft philosophy, historical ceramics, and professional development..

  • Students should bring their basic tool kit.

  • Clay and Firing are not included.

  • The hands on portion of this workshop is surface design only, students will not be throwing on the wheel.

Workshop Policies

Artist Bio:

Stumbras was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received a BFA in studio art and a BS in biology in from St Olaf College in 2007 and MFA in Ceramics from Louisiana State University in 2017. He has completed residencies across the country including 323 Clay in Kansas City, MO, the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY, and the Carbondale Clay Center in Carbondale, CO. Stumbras exhibits work nationally and internationally and is currently an Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois.
