In this two day, hands-on workshop, students will create a stamped, slab-built puffy box or wall hanging with a barrel-hinged component, combining both functional and decorative elements. Juliann will also demonstrate best practices with high-fire wire.
The workshop will include an introduction to working with Amaco Satin Matte Glazes, discussing their versatility in developing a personalized color palette. Students will experiment with glaze application using squeeze bottles on a provided stamped bisque tile.
Techniques will include;
Barrel hinges
Aluminum wire stamp making
Surface design
Slab construction
Decorative additions using high-fire wire

“My aim is to elevate everyday objects, to make the ordinary just a little more extraordinary.” - Juliann Roush
Juliann is a functional potter, living and working in Indian River, Michigan, creating both thrown and hand-built stoneware pieces. She attended Eastern Michigan University where she began studying ceramics. Later studying ceramics at City College San Francisco. Juliann’s art manifests itself in colorful, whimsical pottery by using vibrant glazes in crazy color combinations.
Experience Level: Advanced Beginner /Intermediate
Pre requisite: several ceramic classes
