Artist Statement

In my functional work, I aim to infuse everyday rituals, like sipping morning matcha or sharing tea, with moments of joy, whimsy, and quiet comfort. I work with intention and quickness, letting the hand of the maker remain visible through loose brushstrokes, pinched textures, and slight asymmetries. These marks are not flaws, but reminders of process and presence in a fast, impersonal world. Sgraffito carving adds playful, spontaneous designs that follow the form, creating a dialogue between shape and surface. This piece is an exploration of humor and absurdity through the familiar. I lean further into the whimsical, while still holding to my core belief: that everyday objects should spark joy, invite curiosity, and offer small moments of connection.
