Sarah Koster Nighthouse
Sarah Koster Nighthouse
Nighthouse Sculpture / Porcelain and Paper Porcelain, Wheel-Thrown and Hand-Built / 8 x 8 x 10 in. / $200
Artist Statement
“Nighthouse” explores the heft of porcelain/clay and the contrasting translucency of thin paper porcelain and has both a practical and a sculptural intent. It was thrown in several sections, pieced together and carved; it is not glazed. I was exploring the properties of porcelain in relation to light and this piece reveals very different aspects in varying lighting conditions, and especially when lit from within.
Artist Bio
Sarah Koster has been making pots for many years, having fallen in love with clay at first muddy touch. Her work ranges from the delicacy of thin porcelain to gritty stoneware but all high-fired. Her work is meant to be for daily use on the table and in the kitchen to the perhaps more contemplative sculpture for a garden or a display shelf.
