Artist Statement
Utilizing ceramics as a medium to explore contemporary possibilities, expand ceramic knowledge, and cultivate innovative communities. I work on various themes in my collections, seeking to understand the ways in which materials can be combined to create beautiful works while at the same time understanding the science behind those effects.
My current body of work is focused on material expression and experimentation, making naturally inspired functional works that push the boundaries and expectations of traditional midrange electric firings. I aim to create surfaces that challenge the hierarchy often portrayed between atmospheric and electric firings, showcasing how nuanced surfaces are achievable in accessible ways when time and attention is taken on the creative process.
