Artist Statement
My practice is expanding from a focus on functional wheel-thrown objects towards more intuitive, sculptural forms. I am working on collaborating more with clay, rather than designing pieces in advance; letting sculptures evolve as they break, dry, squish, smudge, and bend. Mixed media experimentation and archival research help to inform this evolving practice.
This piece is inspired by medieval candle clocks. Here, ceramic petals, falling wax, and flowing forms play with the sensory experience of passing time.
