Artist Statement

My functional pottery is created with the intent of providing purposefully made objects that foster a deeper appreciation for and meaningful curation of our immediate material world. These vessels, while based in utility, transcend functionality. They serve as quiet mementos for daily use and special remembrance that encourage more thoughtful connection with the chosen objects that decorate our every-day lives. My broader artistic practice, rooted in exploration of memory, examines remembering as an open dialogue between our past and present selves. I integrate past with present by interpolating patterns and motifs from early childhood doodles into surface decoration using hand-cut paper stencils. The resulting forms bridge ideas of commemoration, mindfulness, lived experience, and the importance of personal artifacts.
